In San Diego, the best-known bakeries and bagel shops have lines on weekend mornings, so arrive early or order ahead where the shop offers it. Across California, immigrant bakeries add Mexican pan dulce, Vietnamese banh mi bread, Chinese buns, Middle Eastern sweets and European rye to the mix, and many gluten-free and vegan bakeries have opened in larger cities. Check the listing for hours, whether the shop accepts custom cake orders and its Google rating before you go, and call about allergens, since small kitchens often share equipment. Day-old bread and end-of-day discounts are common if you ask.
Hours are published for 6 days a week. On most of those days it is open 10 amβ4 pm. Note that it does not open on Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (619) 296-4173. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, babycakessandiego.com.
Customers rate it 4.5 out of 5 on Google across 522 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded bakeries in San Diego.
San Diego is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Diego follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

OMG! We picked up some AMAZING birthday cupcakes at Babycakes, in San Diego! Jeffery was so patient with us (so many from which to choose!) He perfectly described each flavor profile and how each rated in popularity. He was so sweet and personable. He even included birthday candles in our box! We each tasted one of our picks (my birthday isnβt until tomorrow) and saying they didnβt disappoint would be a huge understatement! Danny ate his German Chocolate cupcake: Chocolate Cake, German Chocolate filling injected into the center & topping with coconut & walnuts and fudge frosting. I chose my Lemon Bavarian: Lemon cake, lemon Bavarian frosting and finished with dollop of lemon curd on top and injected into the middle. Every part of the cupcakes were unique, and delicious all by themselves. They have another location in Hillcrest and one in Imperial Beach!

βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ Talk about saving the day! I had one of those βuh-ohβ parent moments and completely forgot to order cupcakes for my sonβs birthday. I called around to several local bakeries, but everyone told me no. Then I called Babycakes. Not only were they incredibly kind and understanding, but they also said yes to my sonβs very specific request: carrot cake cupcakes with chocolate frosting (because apparently thatβs the only thing he wanted!). They made it happen, and I couldnβt be more grateful. The cupcakes were AMAZING! Moist, packed with warm autumn flavors, and the chocolate frostingβ¦oh my goodnessβ¦it was rich, smooth, and almost like eating chocolate fudge. The cupcake size was just right, tooβnot too big and not too small. Excellent customer service, delicious treats, and a bakery that genuinely cares about making their customers happy. Babycakes has officially earned a loyal customer. Weβll definitely be back!

First time ordering a cake here, and my family and I agree, this is our new birthday cake spot! I ordered a red velvet cake as requested by my 17 year old birthday girl. I'm not usually a fan of red velvet cake personally, but I would eat Babycakes' red velvet again in a heartbeat. It was beautiful and delicious. The cake was moist, the cream cheese icing was light and fluffy, and it included a raspberry filling which was a pleasant surprise that really made boring red velvet flavor (in my opinion) something special and interesting. A lot of bakery cakes are sweet enough to take the enamel off your teeth but this cake was just the right sweetness for our tastes. If you dislike the intense sweetness of many of the chain cake bakeries, you too will probably like Babycakes. Service at the Hillcrest location was friendly and efficient, too. We will definitely be ordering our future cakes from here.

BabyCakes Cupcakery has beautiful, eye-catching desserts that look amazing, but theyβre a bit too sweet for my taste. Great presentation, just wish the flavors were more balanced.

The Babycakes on Reo: The label indicated this cupcake was blood orange. It was an unsatisfactory heavy vanilla sponge, with frozen blueberries on the bottom (why?); the buttercream frosting was good. Although the frosting totally lacked tang/blood orange acid to off set the sweetness; and the tiny sugar glazed candied (preserved?) mandarin orange bit was soggy. This cupcake needed to be topped with a fresh half slice of beautiful blood orange. Score 1-2 out of ten. Tossed it in the garbage after eating the blueberries in the bottom with a bit of the kinda vanilla flavored buttercream frosting. Hans-Harry has 100% better cupcakes. Maybe offer fewer flavors and focus on freshness and a lighter sponge. Signed: Cupcake Lover Jenny W.
